4. Advancing the African Credit Transfer System

The Advancing the African Credit Transfer System work area aims to establish a system that enables academic credits to be recognized across African institutions and national bodies. By promoting student mobility and fostering the mutual recognition of qualifications, ACTS aims to create pathways for students to transfer their credits seamlessly across borders. This work area involves piloting the ACTS system in at least 10 African countries and 100 higher education institutions (HEIs).

This Work Area builds upon a Road Map for the ACTS in Africa, published under HAQAA2.

Key Components:

  • Policy Development:
Development of policies to harmonize national and regional credit transfer schemes for cross-border recognition.
  • Training and Capacity Building:
Specialized training for academic institutions and accreditation bodies on implementing credit transfer systems.
  • Implementation:
Pilot projects ensure the system is adaptable, transparent, and mobility-focused.

Expected Outcomes:

  • The establishment of a widely accepted and functional credit transfer system.
  • Increased student mobility within the African higher education system.
