African Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance (ASG-QA)

About the ASG-QA

The ASG-QA is a comprehensive set of standards and guidelines designed to promote both internal and external quality assurance in higher education. These standards have been carefully developed during the first phase of the HAQAA initiative.

The primary purpose of the ASG-QA is to enrich higher education institutions and quality assurance agencies by providing a unified framework applicable to all quality assurance processes. It promotes an improvement-driven approach to institutional and educational quality with the aim of improving the entire higher education landscape.

In the second phase of the initiative, we have introduced a valuable addition: the ASG-QA User’s Guide. This guide serves as a practical resource and provides essential support for the implementation of the ASG-QA. Its key features include

  • Clarification for better understanding: The User’s Guide provides detailed explanations and clarifications to improve understanding and interpretation of the ASG-QA.
  • Guidance for Early Stage Development: Recognising the importance of fostering growth, the guide provides expert guidance for HEIs and quality assurance agencies (QAAs) in the early stages of their development.
  • Demonstrating commitment: To facilitate successful internal and external reviews, the guide provides examples of how HEIs and QAAs can effectively demonstrate their compliance with the commitments outlined in the ASG-QA.
